Political Spectrum Graph
Below is a photo of my partner Sarah's and I Political Spectrum graph. For this project we were giving a list of groups/organizations and we were told to put them on a graphing showing if the organizations were leaning more liberal or leaning more conservative. Leaning more to the left or leaning more to the right. In most cases we had to go to the extreme left or right. Radical or Reactionary.
This was an interesting project because there were a lot of groups I didn't know about or have heard but didn't know what they did. It was weird and cool to see what was going on in the world today.

Book Critique #2
For this assignment I had to read a book and wright a reflection and answer three questions about the book such as, "What feelings did you have as you read the story?" or "How does the title relate to the story?" This would be my second book critique for this class so I knew how to wright a book critique.
The book I chose was The Color Purple written by Alice Walker. It was a really good book even thought it got pretty intense at times it made me go through and feel tons of emotions. I really enjoy these book critique because it makes me think deeper than what I read. To read more on how I felt and though about the book below is my book critique.

Book Critique

What feelings did you have as you read the story? Find some places that make you feel that way.
This book made me feel multiple emotions from the start of the book where Celie was dealing with abuse and rape, to the part where Shug shows her what love is and what love can be. It was hard for me to read as there were some pretty blunt descriptions about rape and the hard life of Celie. It made me sad, mad, upset but in the end, gave me hope that people could survive the worst of the worst. In the very first letter, it immediately starts talking about how her father got on top of her, and raped her and what her life was like, “Just say you gonna do what your mammy wouldn’t” (Page 1) setting the tone for the entire first part of the book, showing that Celie was a prisoner in her life, with no personal freedom or ability to grow as a person. The book keeps going, with bad thing after bad things happening, until Kate gives her a dress that makes Celie feel some form of joy or happiness.
Select a passage that you found meaningful. Explain why.
When Sophia confronted Celie about telling Harpo to hit her, you realize that is just Celie’s reality, that's what men do to control their house. She didn’t even think what it might mean to Sophia until Sophia explained that he had been beaten her whole life and learned to take care of herself and fight back. “She say, all my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my brothers. I had to fight my cousins and my uncles. A girl child ain’t safe in a family of men. But I never thought I would have to fight in my own house.” (Page 40) This struck me because unlike Celie, who just took the abuse, Sophia chose to fight back and do something. She was trying to have a marriage on equal terms, something that really didn’t exist in that time. Sophia took her life and became strong. This had an effect on Celie as she realized that other realities exist for women.
How does the title relate to the story?
Towards the end of the story, Celie and Shug are talking about God, what they each think God is, what he looks like or their world view with God in it. Instead of a God of anger and judgement, Shug believes that God loves all things that give people pleasure and feels that God is in you and in all things and wants you to take the time to see the little beauties he has created. “You saying God vain? I ast. Nah, she say. Not vain, just wanting to share a good thing. I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” (Page 196) Shug wants Celie to slow down and enjoy the little things of beauty that life has to offer, and the color Purple is one of those things.
Short Statement
This book is very confusing because it is all letters to and from people, and hard to read if the topic is too strong for you. The book is talking about abuse, rape, incest and many other things. It is very harsh and is difficult to process, especially because it is written in the language that is not common these days and can be hard to understand. It is a book about being stuck in a very hard situation with no way out, unless you are lucky enough to have someone actually love you and show you the way. If I were to recommend this book, it wouldn’t be to someone my age unless people read a lot and can handle this topic. I think people my age don't really relate or thing about this kind of life on a daily basis and I feel that most people would find it disturbing. Other than that, I would recommend it as it had me look into the way life was in that part of the country for those people. It was overall a good book as it was powerful and made me feel many different strong emotions including sorrow for Celie.

Argumentative essay
This assignment was a big one to me at least. It was a timed writing in class about the topic of should we build the wall between Mexico and the U.S. This whole semester we were discussing the topic of crossing the border and illegal immigrants so we were given plenty of resources to use for this timed writing. We were given and hour to wright as much as we need to get our argument across without using first person. After writing it in class we then typed and then revised it.
This is one of favorite assignments because it really pushes you as a writer and you get to experience and practice what it would be like for the SAT. I also enjoy it because you get to see the growth in your writing and what you do to fix it. Below is the first pages of my three drafts.
